The MBA Sport Leadership Association serves a diverse range of stakeholders, primarily MBA students interested in the sport industry. Our goal is to ensure every experience we offer is educational and inclusive but also forges meaningful connections to industry leaders and professionals.

Black Leadership in Sport Panel Presented by MLSE (2024)

In honour of Black History month and the 2024 theme of “Black Excellence”, MLSE hosted the MBA SLA team and 60 guests for an exclusive panel led by prominent Black leaders in the sport industry.

This meaningful discussion was centred on a speaker panel featuring Julian Franklin, VP of Partnership Development & Strategy, Teri L. Dennis Davis, Chief People & Inclusion Officer, and Matthew Black, Director of Performance & Player Relations.

Fireside Chat with Alyson Walker (2024)

The MBA SLA started 2024 with a fireside Chat with the newly-appointed Secretary General of Soccer Canada, Alyson Walker.

Alyson shared her experiences serving as Chief Commercial Officer at OverActive Media, VP of Content at MLSE, and VP of Brand Partnerships & Client Strategy at Bell Media.

F45 Fitness Fundraiser (2023)

The MBA SLA in collaboration with MLSE Foundation offered its very first F45 Fitness Fundraiser in Liberty Village, a training session offered to MBA students to raise money in support of the MLSE Foundation.

The MLSE Foundation has spent the last decade intentionally investing millions in youth and communities faced with systemic barriers. Equity is the heart and soul of their work, creating spaces and sustainable sport programs for all. The MBA SLA also gave away several prizes including a Toronto Maple Leaf’s Morgan Rielly Jersey

TMU BOLDest (2023)

To conclude our MBA SLA’s historic year, we hosted TMU BOLDest. This event served as a networking platform for over 100 current students, alumni and industry professionals within the sports sector.

The evening started with an engaging panel discussion featuring TMU alumni who have successfully forged careers in the sports industry. Following the panel session, attendees had the unique opportunity to network while enjoying a Maple Leafs game right within the iconic Maple Leaf Gardens.

Essence Mediacom Agency Night (2023)

Essence Mediacom welcomed the MBA SLA team and TMU MBA students into their offices for the 2023 Agency night.

Throughout the event members of EM provided valuable insight into their agency’s operations, shedding light on their collaborations with promiment sports properties across North America. Attendees were treated to a comprehensive overview of the agency’s activities and its role in the Sports industry.

Shining a Light on Women in Sports Media (2023)

The MBA SLA in collaboration with TRSM Women in Leadership Association has this exclusive All-Star panel during the International Women’s Day.

Our accomplished speakers shared their career journeys, spanning from traditional media to the digital age, highlighting the challenges they overcame and successes they achieved.

Pushing The Boundaries of Sports Entertainment through Technology (2023)

Industry Leader MLSE Digital Labs hosted us in their spaces to have this exciting panel.

Panellists shared their experiences in the industry, giving us a different angle on data and analytics regarding sports and fan experience. Following the panel, we had a Q&A with the audience followed by a networking event.

Fireside Chat with Jacqueline Ryan (2023)

The MBA Sport Leadership Association started 2023 with a fireside Chat with Canada Olympic Committee COO Jacqueline Ryan.

Jacquie shared with attendees her experience and path through the sports industry. CoC plans for Paris 2024 and beyond, and gave tips about how to enter the industry.

World Cup Watch Party (2022)

The MBA Sport Leadership Association had its first-ever in-person event for a Men’s Soccer World Cup Watch Party.

The event focused on networking and cheering for Canada’s Men’s National team in its second World Cup game in Qatar 2022 vs Croatia. We had a great turnout and some prizes for a lucky winner.

An Inside Look at Canada’s #1 Sponsorship Agency

This event featured 3-time SMCC- Sponsorship Marketing Council Canada Agency of the Year, Wasserman

The first half of this event consisted of a presentation from the Wasserman team, followed by an exclusive networking segment with Wasserman staff: Ryley Robinson, Karan Mann, Serena Budhwani, Jacob MacDonald, and Bryan Ploen.

The MBASLA worked with the RSBA to present this event.

Fireside Chat with Stacey Allaster

The MBA Sport Leadership Association started off 2022 with an in-depth conversation with Chief Executive, Professional Tennis & US Open Tournament Director at the United States Tennis Association, Stacey Allaster.

The event focused on emerging trends in the sports industry, the state of tennis globally, traits of effecting leadership and paving the way for women in sports.

Building Strategic Partnerships in Sport

The MBA SLA wrapped up 2021 with an industry panel featuring key players in the sponsorship industry from a variety of organizations such as CBC, Clorox, NBA Canada, Pittsburgh Penguins and Tangerine Bank.

Panellists discussed their individual backgrounds in the sports industry, indicators of success and KPI’s for effective partnerships and the future state of the sponsorship industry

Fireside Chat with Jack Armstrong

An intimate conversation with the one and only Jack Armstrong, Game Analyst for the Toronto Raptors on all TSN and TSN 1050.

Armstrong has worked in the past as a radio analyst for the Raptors following a successful 14-year coaching career at the collegiate level.

NBA Canada Marketing Event

We hosted a talented group of NBA Canada Executives for a keystone presentation and networking opportunity, exclusive to our MBA students.

This event was hosted in partnership with NBA Canada.

Building Strategic Partnerships in Sport

Sport and Tech: Leader-Run Workshop

Dr. Cheri Bradish and Kosta Kladianos kicked this event off by educating the group about trends within the sport tech industry. The group then tackled an applicable business problem presented by The GIST.

The Business of Women in Sport

Moderated by Dr. Cheri Bradish, this event featured prominent females in the sports industry including Nathalie Cook, Kia Nurse and Shelby Weaver.

This event was hosted in partnership with TRSM WILA.

Canadian Sport Tech & Innovation

We hosted a talented group of Sport Tech Leaders in Canada to Recap 2021, and look ahead for new opportunities in the industry

This event was hosted with support from the Canadian Consulate in Los Angeles.
